Lochwinnoch Arts Festival and partners are inviting bids for a self motivated Artist with experience of driving and delivering small public art works to create an iconic new work and place marker.
LAF, in partnership with Renfrewshire Council’s Great Place Scheme and Sustrans are inviting bids from an Artist who has a working knowledge of community based arts commissions, models of good community engagement and practice, and preferably community based environmental art practice. We welcome applications from artists who live or work in Renfrewshire or have a strong connection with the area.
There are two phases. Phase one has a two-part process and we are inviting creatively brave and ambitious bids from two artists for Com. Engagement Interventions leading to temporary or permanent simulations or installations, and proposals for a permanent artwork in the vicinity of the Castle Semple Visitor and Watersports Centre connecting with the cycle track and other local visitor attractions. Phase two will develop and complete the design work fabrication and installation of the chosen permanent artwork. The artists selected from open bids will create a statement work of art and visitor attraction for Castle Semple Loch ramp. All genres, formats and ideas are welcomed, especially those embracing diversity and environmental concerns.
Phase 1
- Two artists will be invited to engage and consult with the wider community and active communities of interest in Lochwinnoch and Renfrewshire to produce a temporary artwork.
- For this piece of work each artist will receive £1400. This is to include the artist’s fee, materials and travel expenses as detailed in the brief.
- There will be an online and in person public display and consultation to tied into a prescheduled local event to assist with this process.
- Participating and wider communities will vote and decide which artist’s work will be taken forward and developed into a permanent public artwork.
- This artist will go forward to deliver phase two.
Phase 2
- The chosen artist will make and install the artwork in consultation with project partners.
- Completed work must be fully accessible and adhere to site specifications.
- It is envisaged that a final work will be sited on or around the new ramp and seating area being installed at Castle Semple between September and December 2022. The ramp will comprise an accessible landing area and gentle incline and accessible gateway to the cycle route and trails.
- To design and fabricate a piece of permanent public art we are looking for an artist who has the aforementioned skills and experience.
Budget 8k- with approx.£1050 Artist Fees (7 days)& £6950 excludes install.
