About the Role

Cycle Arts Renfrewshire is seeking an experienced Outdoor Event Producer to support the delivery of Cycle Arts Renfrewshire Outdoor Artists Commissions, the provision of a Cycle Arts and Renfrewshire route map and potentially this year’s Cycle Arts Festival, taking place September 2025  (This event is currently funding dependent).

Cycle Arts Renfrewshire was set up to promote the wonderful off road cycle routes in Renfrewshire and celebrate creativity, cycling, and environmental awareness through live outdoor events, visual arts, performance, workshops, and more.

You’ll be working on a freelance basis to support artist commissioning, local fundraising  marketing promotions, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with community partners to deliver planned events and peripheral activities (e.g. wellbeing, food, ecology).
  • Co-ordinate meetings with partners and steering groups (in-person and online).
  • Support the Board of Directors with local business fundraising for the festival events and artists commissions.
  • Assist with Cycle Arts Renfrewshire’s marketing and communications: support branding, PR, brochure copy, social media (Instagram/X), and website updates.
  • Commission art works as planned and co-ordinate delivery logistics, including artist contracts and technical requirements.
  • Support liaison with Renfrewshire Council, Sustrans, and private landowners to secure outdoor event permissions where required for the commissions.
  • Support volunteer engagement at Cycle Arts Renfrewshire events
  • Plan and collect audience feedback and assist in compiling event evaluation visual reports.
  • Monitor the process of invoices and basic budget tracking to support the board of Directors.
  • Develop new ideas for future Cycle Arts Renfrewshire events
  • Be an enthusiastic ambassador for Cycle Arts Renfrewshire and its creative, environmental and power of cycling ambitions for the Festival and development.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in creative or outdoor arts production and site-specific events.
  • Experience of working with communities and volunteers.
  • Experience and knowledge of cycling participation events.
  • Confident using Instagram, X (Twitter), and updating websites.
  • Good working knowledge of outdoor event health & safety.
  • Collaborative and self-motivated with excellent organisational skills.
  • Skills in team working.
  • Working knowledge of equalities, diversity and inclusion in the arts.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting environmental or cycling-themed projects.
  • Design or digital content creation skills.
  • Driver’s licence (not essential).

Artist Call-Out: “Growing a New World”

This is our commission for a site-responsive public artwork for the Elderslie, Johnstone and Kilbarchan section of shared use path on National Cycle Network (NCN) 7.

Commission Fee: £3,000 (inclusive)

Timeframe : to be delivered between July and October 2025 (flexible delivery date)

Deadline for Proposals: Friday 4th July 2025 at 5pm

About the Commission

Cycle Arts Renfrewshire are seeking an artist or group/collective of artists to develop a growing or evolving public artwork that responds to the natural environment, communities, and heritage of the National Cycle Route between Elderslie, Johnston, Kilbarchan.  We are looking for a contemporary artwork that is place specific and will inspire artists and audiences to look again at the local biodiversity and the potential of the natural world to transform our lives. This outdoor contemporary artwork that grows with it’s place could mean:

  • A participatory growing piece shaped and grown with the local communities
  • An installation that evolves or grows and transforms over time.
  • A collaborative process that starts before the Festival and comes to life during it in mid September.
  • A work that embeds to a specific location and reflects that place, connecting to local histories, biodiversity, people in that area.
  • The artwork should be environmentally conscious in materials and process.
  • Be low-maintenance and suitable for outdoor presentation weather durable and climate suitable.
  • Be welcoming, inclusive and provocative – able to be the focus of community dialogues now and in the future.

The commission will form part of Cycle Arts Festival 2025 — a site-specific, outdoor celebration of creativity, climate awareness, Artists and cycling taking place in September 2025. (currently funding dependent). The commissioned artwork should also stand alone as special to its location.

Cycle Arts Renfrewshire aims to celebrate Renfrewshire’s Cycle Routes and the creative engagements and biodiversity that can be found along this unique urban and rural network. We aim to encourage everyone to cycle, walk and wheel more, to explore our shared use paths, to take a closer look at our natural world and value these unique local environments. Recognising climate change, adapting to it and changing how we engage with and value our natural world is becoming much more important for our future.

Renfrewshire hosts one of the most beautiful off-road paths in Scotland on the NCN7 between Paisley and Lochwinnoch and this route is where we plan to host an annual Cycle Arts Festival in collaboration with our local communities along the route.

Who Should Apply

We’re particularly interested in artists who:

·       Have experience in socially engaged, participatory or site-specific practice.

·       Can demonstrate a track record of creating accessible, place-based work.

·       Are based in or have strong links to Renfrewshire or the West of Scotland.

The Commission Includes:

  • Artist fee, materials and all associated costs (up to £3,000)
  • Production support with installation of the Artwork from Cycle Arts Renfrewshire and Sustrans.
  • Installation during or prior to the Cycle Arts Festival 2025 in September (with potential for public engagement sessions)
  • Inclusion and artists promotion in the Festival programme and documentation.
