SUMMARY:Led walk to Disability History Month Artwork and Weavers Cottages with Sustrans
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin Sustrans on a free leisurely\, led walk from Paisley Canal Train Station along National Cycle Network (NCN) 7 to see the woven public artwork made by Hector Dyer. Here you will get to meet the artist and learn more about their process and research. We will then visit the Sma Shot Weavers Cottages to learn more about the history of weaving in Paisley. \n  \nDisability History Month \nBetween 16 November and 16 December 2022\, a series of art installations and events celebrating Disability History Month will be hosted along traffic-free National Cycle Network routes in Scotland. \nThe four pieces created along the National Cycle Network celebrate notable disabled people\, movements\, and locations from Scotland’s history that have made it the country it is today. \nHector is a self-taught artist who works across textiles\, performance and social engagement. \nBased in Glasgow\, their art takes a DIY approach and often involves working with other people. ‘It Is A Long Lane That Has No Turning’ is a series of woven panels which tells the story of Scottish weavers\, specifically those in Paisley and Glasgow\, and the disabilities they developed through their trade. \nHector’s focus is the societies and trade unions they created to support one another. \n \nFind out more \n  \nThe Led Walk \nPlease arrive at Paisley Canal Station Station at 11.45am ready to head off at 12 noon. \nThe route will go along the National Cycle Network on traffic-free paths. We will keep to a leisurely pace that everyone is comfortable with. We will return the same way ending at the Sma Shot Weavers Cottages to learn more about the history of weaving in Paisley. \nWe welcome wheelchair users and people who use mobility aids. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss the suitability of the route. \nFurther information \n\nThe walk will be at a leisurely pace in order to accommodate everyone\nThe walk is led and supervised by qualified Sustrans walk leaders at all times\nPlease bring weather-appropriate clothing\, snacks\, and water\n\n  \nThese walks are run by Sustrans\, the charity making it easier for people to walk\, wheel and cycle. Our vision is a society where the way we travel creates healthier places and happier lives for everyone. Sustrans Scotland is a key delivery partner of Transport Scotland\, helping to deliver Scottish Government priorities. The diverse range of projects and programmes delivered aim to encourage more people to walk and cycle\, supporting people to live healthy and active lives\, and improving the environment and economy for local communities and neighbourhoods alike. And each answered with their own thought;  ‘the clash of arms and a fair fought fight’ ‘the cry of the curlew in the clear air’ ‘ the cry of a new born babe’ and Finn said ‘these are all good sounds\, but I know that the sweetest music is the music of what is’  \nKamishibai is a Japanese storybox tradition\, where pictures slide in and out of a mini wooden theatre while stories are told to go with them.  Imagine them as the original ‘Ice Cream Vans’\, as they would be attached to bicycles which would travel round the locality. The crowd was attracted using amazingly ear-piercing  hyōshigi or wooden clackers and the kamishibai operator would sell sweets to children before they settled down to watch the show.  \n  \nAbout the artist \nHarriet Grindley  first set her course upon a traditional seven year apprenticeship in Traditional Scottish Storytelling back in 2013 under such mentors as David Campbell\, Linda Williamson\, and the Scottish storytelling centre in Edinburgh. Born in London to Scottish parents\, she returned to her roots studying Mediaeval History at St Andrews and followed a varied career path before finding her tongue as a storyteller.  \nNow she loves to bring the enchantment that comes from one voice holding a gathering in a collective yet individually unique imaginative experience back into everyday community settings.  She often adds songs\, riddles\, music from the clarsach and ukulele\, and sometimes pictures from a Japanese storytelling box (kamishibai).  https://talesoutofthebox.home.blog/  \n\n\nDate & Location\nSunday 7th August\, 3pm – 4pm\,  at Courtshaw Hill \nCourtshaw Hill Viewpoint is located in quite an exposed location with a short but steep climb to the top along a dedicated footpath.   \nPlease wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions on the day\, including suitable footwear for moderate hill climbing and waterproofs in case of rain. For longer events there will be seating available but please be aware that it will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The nearest toilet facilities are located at Castle Semple Visitor centre\, so please bear this in mind when attending events.  \n  \nBook your free tickets here

SUMMARY:Clouture Exhibition & Talk at Lochwinnoch
DESCRIPTION:Artist\nGillian Steel \nIntro\nClouture presents a research project in progress that spotlights the potential for Scottish communities to challenge existing environmentally damaging clothing industry models\, by conjuring locally appropriate future solutions. Ones that draw from local experiences\, cultures\, folklores\, knowledge\, and skills\, using locally grown plants and fibres to meet clothing needs. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nExtra Detail\n‘Clouture’: (A made-up word derived from ‘cloot’ – a Scots word for clothing mashed with ‘couture’ referring to the business of designing\, making\, selling fashionable custom-made clothing\, and usually associated with exotic places\, exclusivity\, and limited access.) This work has been based in two Scottish communities with a history of textile manufacturing – one on the island of Tiree and the other within the diverse community of craftivists and makers at ReMode in Paisley. For Renfrewshire’s Cycle Arts Festival the research in-progress including prototypes from both sites will be presented as a popup exhibition on the cycle path (location tbc). The artist will also give talks and lead walks where participants will gather and do some creative experimenting\, at hands-on workshops\, with locally grown ‘unlikely’ fibres. The research has been funded by Creative Futures at Glasgow School of Art and the Cloture happening as a part of the Renfrewshire Cycle Arts Festival with the financial support of One Ren. Many thanks to the residents of Tiree\, the wonderful makers at ReMode\, Niki Taylor\, Keng Keng Watt and Muriel Ann at One Ren for her support and encouragement in sharing and developing this project with an audience via CAF. \n  \nClick here to book tickets to the artist’s talk \n  \nDate/Location\n6th August\, 11am – 4pm exhibition 12pm – 2pm artist’s talk \nLochwinnoch Community Garden

We will then undertake a nature walk together to explore the site and find local wildlife. This event is family friendly and you’ll be able to pick up free guides for native amphibians and reptiles as well as our Natterchat magazine and our handy guide to creating ponds at the end.  \n  \nAbout Froglife \nFroglife are a national amphibian and reptile conservation charity whose vision is a world in which amphibians and reptiles are flourishing as part of healthy ecosystems. In Renfrewshire we deliver the Scottish Green Pathways project\, working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people aged 8 to 18 (or up to age 25 if they have additional support needs) and the Green Pathways For Life – Glasgow & Renfrewshire project working with people living with dementia to improve local greenspaces for wildlife\, especially amphibians and reptiles\, through practical conservation projects with these groups. Activities can include anything from nature walks to pond dipping to creating a new pond in a local greenspace. Find out more here: Renfrewshire Living Water (froglife.org)  \n\n  \nDate/Location\nSaturday 6th August\, 11am – 1pm at Courtshaw Hill \nCourtshaw Hill Viewpoint is located in quite an exposed location with a short but steep climb to the top along a dedicated footpath.   \nPlease wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions on the day\, including suitable footwear for moderate hill climbing and waterproofs in case of rain. SUMMARY:Cycle Powered Music Showcase at Lochwinnoch
DESCRIPTION:Intro\nThe Cycle Powered Music Stage at the Cycle Arts Festival 2022 delivers in unusual presentation of a local musicians Showcase. The small stage which amplifies the music of up to 4 Musicians at a time requires 5 bikes with cyclists riding them for the entire period on the event. So come get cycling! \n  \nFeatured Artists\n  \nArchie CW \n \nArchie\, 18\, from Lochwinnoch is about to make his headline debut at King Tut’s following the release of his first solo single\, “Everything she does is beautiful”.  An accomplished writer and performer\, he has already performed in iconic Glasgow venues such as the Barrowlands and the Glasgow Green main stage for the 2018 European Championships.  His solo debut follows a successful collaboration – “Nicotine” – with Drum and Bass DJ/Producer Goddard\, (top 10 on the iTunes dance charts with nearly 5 million streams) and being invited to close out the Tobacco Docks music festival to a sell out crowd of over 2\,000 people \n  \nSilver Threads \nWe are Evelyn Laurie (vocals) and Neil Thomson (vocals\, guitar\, bouzouki) with additional support from John McGhee on guitar. The songs we’d do are from ‘Silver Threads’\, our collection of songs from local writers\, including Danny Kyle\, Robert Tannahill and ourselves\, which tell stories from Paisley’s heritage. \n  \nNeil MacDonald Thomson \nPaisley born and bred\, Neil is a lifelong singer\, songwriter and multi instrumentalist\, who sets music to traditional poems sung in Old Scots and writes songs with unique observations inspired by the natural world. His album releases have been well received “Beautifully recorded\, reminiscent of early Ralph McTell\, Dougie Maclean or even The Incredibles” Folk Roots Magazine. ‘Snawdraps’ written in old Scots by Gerry Cambridge and set to music by Neil became a joint winner of the 2016 Nòs Ùr competition sponsored by Hands up for Trad. In 2017 Neil relaunched Crieff folk Club and has recently presented a folk and roots music show for local community radio station Radio Earn. www.neilthomson.co.uk \n  \nEvelyn Laurie \n \nBorn in Paisley\, ‘a while ago’ (!)\, Evelyn Laurie is a lifelong singer and is now establishing herself as a songwriter of note\, working across a variety of genres. Since 2018\, she has released two albums that have been well received by critics and audiences alike. Some of her songs have been shortlisted in international songwriting competitions. Her recent album\, “My Scottish Heart” is a collection of 18th and 19th century traditional Scottish songs\, reimagined in contemporary jazz settings\, plus some of her original creations. The album has been described by reviewers as a ‘fantastic musical masterpiece’ and a ‘gem of an album’.  In 2018\, Evelyn was awarded Renfrewshire Provost’s Champion for Arts and Culture for her voluntary activities in the local creative community. www.evelynlaurie.com \n  \nJohn McGhee \nJohn is an accomplished guitarist who also teaches guitar in Renfrewshire schools. He plays in several ceilidh bands and has been involved in developing the ‘Silver Threads’ songs. \n  \nDeep Filff \n \nThere are 2 of us – a drummer and a bassist with vocals.  What songs will Deep Filff play? You decide! The improvised psychedelic hardcore punk duo bring tons of energy\, fun and loud noise\, with a comedic interactive twist. \n  \nLinzie Clark \n \nLinzi released her debut album ‘ All I Have Now’ in November last year featuring beautifully crafted songs that soar and yearn with love\, warmth and curiosity. A charming and natural performer on a stage\, Clark pairs her soulful vocals with striking pop arrangements that balance the rich storytelling tradition of artists like Julia Jacklin\, Regina Spektor and Kate Bush. Amongst the many notable successes\, her debut album went on to win Album of The Year at the Paisley Music Awards\, and was featured as Record of Note & Best of 2021 on BBC Radio Scotland by Roddy Hart. \nLink to music: https://linktr.ee/linziclark      Link to website: https://www.linziclark.com/ \n  \nSupport for the Cycle Powered Music Showcase comes from Music Broth \nMusic Broth is Scotland’s Loudest Library! A musical instrument and equipment sharing library\, social enterprise with charitable status (SC048299).\nOur ethos is to make music playing\, learning and enjoyment accessible to all. We enable people to pursue their own creativity\, self-expression and wellbeing through music\, through making musical instruments and equipment and support accessible\, regardless of income\, ability\, socioeconomic background\, or other life factors. We recognise music can be a privilege for some and we want to level that playing field\, so anyone can take up any instrument as their heart desires.\nWe created our library of over 2000 musical instruments and equipment since our inception in 2017\, harnessing the immense generosity of the Scottish community through instrument and equipment donations and volunteer time. We reuse\, restore and repair donated items for sharing through our community library; environmentally consciously saving instruments from landfill and prolonging their lives\, whilst bringing musical joy to new hands! \n  \nClick here to book tickets. \n  \nDate/Location\n4th August\, 3pm – 7pm at Castle Semple Visitors Centre

SUMMARY:Clouture Exhibition & Talk at Cart Park
\n  \nClick here to book tickets for the Artist Talk. \n  \nDate/Location\n4th August\, 11am – 4pm exhibition & 12pm – 2pm artist’s talk \nNext to the Alexander Wilson Memorial\, Paisley
