And each answered with their own thought;  ‘the clash of arms and a fair fought fight’ ‘the cry of the curlew in the clear air’ ‘ the cry of a new born babe’ and Finn said ‘these are all good sounds\, but I know that the sweetest music is the music of what is’  \nKamishibai is a Japanese storybox tradition\, where pictures slide in and out of a mini wooden theatre while stories are told to go with them.  Imagine them as the original ‘Ice Cream Vans’\, as they would be attached to bicycles which would travel round the locality. The crowd was attracted using amazingly ear-piercing  hyōshigi or wooden clackers and the kamishibai operator would sell sweets to children before they settled down to watch the show.  \n  \nAbout the artist \nHarriet Grindley  first set her course upon a traditional seven year apprenticeship in Traditional Scottish Storytelling back in 2013 under such mentors as David Campbell\, Linda Williamson\, and the Scottish storytelling centre in Edinburgh. Ones that draw from local experiences\, cultures\, folklores\, knowledge\, and skills\, using locally grown plants and fibres to meet clothing needs. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nExtra Detail\n‘Clouture’: (A made-up word derived from ‘cloot’ – a Scots word for clothing mashed with ‘couture’ referring to the business of designing\, making\, selling fashionable custom-made clothing\, and usually associated with exotic places\, exclusivity\, and limited access.) This work has been based in two Scottish communities with a history of textile manufacturing – one on the island of Tiree and the other within the diverse community of craftivists and makers at ReMode in Paisley. For Renfrewshire’s Cycle Arts Festival the research in-progress including prototypes from both sites will be presented as a popup exhibition on the cycle path (location tbc). The artist will also give talks and lead walks where participants will gather and do some creative experimenting\, at hands-on workshops\, with locally grown ‘unlikely’ fibres. The research has been funded by Creative Futures at Glasgow School of Art and the Cloture happening as a part of the Renfrewshire Cycle Arts Festival with the financial support of One Ren. At Courtshaw Hill we will be hosting a Wildlife Gardening Workshop to share skills for wildlife gardening through the creation of wildlife friendly model gardens and learn about amphibians and reptiles along the way with our staff (complete with amphibian and reptile models!). We will then undertake a nature walk together to explore the site and find local wildlife. This event is family friendly and you’ll be able to pick up free guides for native amphibians and reptiles as well as our Natterchat magazine and our handy guide to creating ponds at the end.  \n  \nAbout Froglife \nFroglife are a national amphibian and reptile conservation charity whose vision is a world in which amphibians and reptiles are flourishing as part of healthy ecosystems. In Renfrewshire we deliver the Scottish Green Pathways project\, working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people aged 8 to 18 (or up to age 25 if they have additional support needs) and the Green Pathways For Life – Glasgow & Renfrewshire project working with people living with dementia to improve local greenspaces for wildlife\, especially amphibians and reptiles\, through practical conservation projects with these groups.
